Ampato
Second Option - Sallalli Route 3or 4 days climbing
Day 1
We start in the city of Arequipa in the morning, then we take the road to the Colca Canyon in our 4wd transport to hacienda Sallalli in the way we croos the national reserve for vicuñas. After 4 hours we will arrive at the base camp (4750m), set the camp and sleep (campamento base).
Day 2
After breakfast we have to pack the camp and we start the climbing. We will camp overnight at 5450m, this day we have more time to take pictures and slow climbing, because the altitude. This day we will climb on the southern east face of Ampato. Aproximatle at 14.00h. we will set our second camp( campamento 1). We will camp overnight at 5450m
Day 3
After early breakfast at 03. 00, using all our climbing tecnique and equipment like crampons or Ice axe, we start the last climb to the top, that takes aprox. 5 hours. At the top we can see all the volcanic shane(cordillera volcanica), here we visit the archaeological site where the maiden of Ampato was found in 1995 by an American tourist and his peruvian guide. We return then to the camp 1 take the equipment and decend to the base camp(campamento base).
Day 4
The next day we decend to our 4wd transport and we return to Arequipa , during the morning, we can combine the visit to the nearest Colca canyon(optional).
Optional 3 days
This tour can also be done over three days,
depending on a personal level of acclimatization.
The second day we leave early in the morning, ascending to the summit in
about 5 hours, were we spend some 20-30 minutes. Then we return to the
camp to pack up the equipment and continue down to be picked up by our
transport (in total the descent takes about 6 hours). At 21.00h we come
back to Arequipa .

About the porters for Ampato the costs is US $ 90. Each porter (normally we don't use porters), about what you need to bring:
- Backpack
- Boots *
- Sleping bag *
- T - shirt
- Warm troussers
- Sun glasses
- Mattress
- Sweeter
- Mountain jacket
- Socks *
- Flashlight
- Personal medicines
- Sun Block
- Water bottles (minimum 4 lt.)
- Gloves
- Tent
- Snacks and walking food.
About the items to carry normally the guide carry the cooking gear and the food for cooking and his own equipment and the passengers carry the own gear it means all the list about, if you need a porter for a half of your equipment you need only one for 2 people if you want to carry nothing you need one porter each (in Arequipa is not porters like in the Inca trail, here the porter is another guide but normally we don't use porters).
